Sri Lankan pres. Wickremesinghe arrives for Muizzu’s inauguration, meets Pres. Solih

Sri Lankan president Ranil Wickremesinghe, following his arrival in Maldives for the inauguration ceremony of President-Elect Dr. Mohamed Muizzu, has met with outgoing President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih.

Maldivian Foreign Minister Abdulla Shahid welcomed Wickremesinghe at Velana International Airport.

After arriving in Male’ City, Wickremesinghe met President Solih at the President’s Office.

During the meeting, they extensively discussed the current state of affairs in Sri Lanka and how the nation is gradually emerging from the recent recession. They also discussed the government of Sri Lanka's present and future goals to expand the country's economy.

President Solih also expressed gratitude to his Sri Lankan counterpart for collaborating to solidify their bilateral ties further, which included concluding several bilateral agreements under his administration.

Wickremesinghe also conveyed appreciation for the aid and support provided by the Maldives during a time of need.

They concluded the meeting by extending their best wishes and prosperity to the Maldives and Sri Lanka.

Delegations from various foreign nations are arriving in the Maldives in response to the invitation extended to attend Muizzu’s inauguration.

The first to arrive in this regard, was Chinese President Xi Jinping’s Special Representative and State Councilor, Shen Yijin, yesterday.

Seychelles’ Vice President Ahmed Afif and South Korean President’s Special Representative and Busan City’s Mayor Park Hiu Jun have also arrived in the Maldives.

Japanese Prime Minister’s Special Representative and Deputy Foreign Minister Komura Masaiso has also arrived in the Maldives.

As per the Parliament Secretariat, which is organizing the inauguration ceremony, delegations from 46 foreign nations will arrive in the Maldives at their invitation.
