Man injured in balcony collapse stable

The condition of the young man injured after the balcony of a home in Male’ City collapsed on top of him is improving, reports his family.

The collapse of the balcony of a home in Maafannu district was reported to the police at around 01:18 pm Tuesday.

According to the police, the incident resulted in injuries to a Maldivian male, who had been in the street, directly underneath the balcony when it collapsed.

He was taken to the Indhira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH).

A family member told Sun on Wednesday that the young man sustained head injuries and damage to the soft tissue of his spine in the incident.

He was discharged after treatment, and is recovering in his home.

The balcony which collapsed had been built on a wooden deck, and collapsed due to structural damage.
