2nd floor balcony of a house collapses, injuring 5

Five people have been reported injured after the 2nd floor balcony of Rudhoshuge – a house located in the Henveyru district of Male’ City – collapsed and hit the people on the street below.

The incident took place at approximately 6:20 pm this Wednesday.

An eye witness reported that two young men were sitting on motorcycle directly below the balcony when it collapsed.

“It fell directly on top of them. It was on top of them,” said the man.

He reported that the two men were bleeding from their mouth and nose, and looked to have sustained further injuries to their knees and backs.

“They were taken to ADK Hospital. I can’t say for certain the extent of their injuries. They were bleeding from the mouth and nose. It’s likely their legs and backs are fractured too,” reported the eyewitness.

He said the entire section of the balcony extending out had collapsed.

 

While at least two people sustained serious injuries, the incident also resulted in damages to motorcycles parked on the street.

Police officers are currently at the scene to investigate the case.

Managing Director of ADK Hospital, Mohamed Afhaal reports four people injured in the incident have been brought in to the hospital.

The four people brought in to ADK Hospital have been identified as:

  • A 16-year-old male
  • A 19-year-old male
  • A 23-year-old male
  • A 26-year-old male

Afhaal said the four sustained varying degrees of injuries – details of which are unclear at this point.

The police report total five people were injured in the incident.
