The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has instructed Urbanco to halt the lease of land from Farukolhufushi in Hulhumale’.
ACC’s Senior Communications Officer Nishan Mohamed Ali told Sun on Monday that the corruption watchdog is investigating a complaint submitted regarding the lease of land from Farukolhufushi.
He said that Urbanco was told on Sunday, to suspend the lease of land from the area while the ACC investigates the case.
The move comes after the Office of the President-elect Dr. Mohamed Muizzu released a statement on Sunday, saying that Urbanco was attempting to finalize financial transaction related to land in Hulhumale’ during the transition period.
The office said they found rushed transactions relating to land during the transitional period deeply concerning, especially when it involves foreign lessees.
The office said it poses an obstacle to the execution of the incoming administration’s policies, and could be damaging to the entire State of Maldives.
Urbanco was not immediately available for comment.
