Ashraf: Goal is to expand Dhivehi Bahuge Academy nationwide

Dr. Ashraf Abdul Raheem, the president of the Dhivehi Bahuge Academy (DBA), says that they envision expanding the academy’s services across the nation.

In a special session held at the Islamic Center on Thursday to mark the Day Maldives Embraced Islam, Ashraf said that instead of having the DBA remain an office in Male’ City, the academy’s main goal is to make the academy’s services available nationwide.

“All our sessions, whether to teach poetry or story writing, or an oral competition… Will, In Sha Allah, hereafter be held for the entire Maldives,” said Ashraf, addressing the school students attending the session.

Noting that the national poetry writing, essay writing and story writing competitions will begin next month, Ashraf said that the DBA will begin conducting special sessions for the competitions on Saturday.

“We will also begin classes to teach writing poems and bandhi. All school students in Maldives will be able to join online via Zoom. We will make the arrangements,” he said.

Ashraf said that the students who join the classes will not feel like the teachers are far away from them.

He also said that students do not need to travel to Male’ to attend the national competitions next month, and that they can attend from their islands.

Applications for the competitions close at 02:00 pm on Sunday.

The competitions will be held on November 24-25. Participants will be informed of the time and place five days ahead.
