Condolence book open at DBA in honor of Madulu Waheed

The Dhivehi Bahuge Academy (DBA) has opened a book of condolence to honor Madulu Mohamed Waheed, who left a lasting legacy on Maldivian literature.

Madulu Waheed, an advisor at the Ministry of Dhivehi Language, Culture and Heritage, died in a hospital in Male’ on Monday after battling a long illness.

A book of condolence in his memory opened at the DBA on Thursday morning. The first to write a message on the book was Minister of Dhivehi Language, Culture and Heritage, Adam Naseer Ibrahim.

The ceremony held to open the book was attended by Madulu Waheed’s bereaved family as well as senior officials from the DBA, including the academy’s president Dr. Ashraf Abdul Raheem.

The book of condolence will remain open from 09:00 am to 01:30 pm until April 30.

Madulu Waheed’s dedicated service to Dhivehi literature spans over half a century, during which time he produced numerous stories, essays and other writings.

He received the National Award for Public Service twice and the National Award of Honor in 2019, for his contributions to promoting Dhivehi literature. He also received Alimas Galan of Honor for his contribution to the field of journalism in 2018.
