Addu City Council states that the 200 housing units in the Hithadhoo district of the city will be built in two towers – each 10 stories high.

The project was contracted to a joint venture between Indonesia’s PT Citramas Heavy Industries and Maldives’ Beaver Builders last month.

The city council allocated land for the project on Wednesday.

Addu councilman Mohamed Shuau told Sun that the housing units will be built in two towers with 10 floors each. Each tower will have two elevators.

“The apartments will be 1,000 square feet, and will have three bedrooms,” he said.

Shuau said that practical works on the project will begin once the contractor submits the design for the housing units for approval.

The Public Sector Investment Program (PISP) project is valued at MVR 214 million.

The contractor is required to complete the project in 540 days.

Addu City Mayor Ali Nizar told Sun he believes the project will ease the housing crisis in Addu.

He said the project will benefit a lot of the city’s residents.
