President-elect Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has announced the decision to install two additional lifts at each Hiyaa tower developed on Hulhumale’ Phase II, out of which one lift will be spacious enough to accommodate stretchers.

Muizzu announced the decision during a meeting with Hiyaa residents on Friday evening.

Speaking during the meeting, he gave full assurance of fulfilling all electoral pledges made to the Hiyaa area during his electoral term. In this regard, he said two additional lifts will be installed at each Hiyaa tower.

“I have included the installation of additional lifts in these towers when the budget was proposed. Each tower will get two additional lifts; one spacious enough to accommodate stretchers. The other lift will have a capacity of 14 people,” he said.

Muizzu thanked for the support received from Hiyaa area in his bid to win the September presidential election.

Muizzu, when announcing his manifesto for the presidential election, said there was sufficient space in Hiyaa towers to install additional lifts. Therewith, he pledged to install lifts, as allowed by engineering standards. Back then, however, he said each tower would only be getting one additional lift.

The development of Hiyaa towers commenced during former president Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayyoom’s administration, under the oversight of the Housing Ministry, then headed by Muizzu. Once the towers became tenantable, complaints arose of the lifts installed at the towers being inadequate compared to the number of residents.

At present, there are three lifts in each tower. There are often huge queues to utilize the lifts.

Muizzu was accompanied by Vice President-elect Hussain Mohamed Latheef (Sembe) during Friday’s meeting with Hiyaa residents.
