Maldivians holds second major rally in solidarity with Palestinians

Maldivians, on Friday night, showcased solidarity with Palestinians in second major rally since the escalation of violence in besieged Gaza.

Gaza’s ruling Hamas initiated a surprise attack on Israel in the early morning of October 7^th – the deadliest attack on Israel in decades – following which Israel declared war against Palestine.

Death toll from relentless strikes on Gaza has surged to over 4,000 Palestinians with over 15,000 sustaining injuries to various extents. Israel’s response has extended into cutting water and electricity supplies to Gaza, further worsening the living conditions in an area that endured a crippling siege since 2007.

The second rally held in solidarity with Palestinians by Maldivians in the capital Male’ City kicked off in Rasfannu area on Friday night.

As the first, the rally was attended by hundreds of people of all ages.

The participants of the rally marched across Majeedhee Magu, from Rasfannu, to conclude the rally at Henveiru Stadium, where they called to ban Israeli tourists from traveling to the Maldives.

They also called to free Palestinians; for the immediate cessation of the inhumane attacks on Palestinians and to lift the blockade at Rafah border to allow much-needed humanitarian aid for Palestinians.

A special dua was also made, praying for Palestinians’ victory.

A similar rally, alongside a motorcycle rally on the sidelines, was held in Male’ City last Friday as well.

Over MVR 15 million has been raised for Palestinians in a telethon held by local media outlets in collaboration with International Aid Campaign (IAC). USD 100,000 raised by Maldivians has also been distributed to Palestinians. 200 families, each received USD 500 in cash.
