Govt: Will be cooperative regarding requests put forth by president-elect

The government states they will be fully cooperative with respect to requests put forth by president-elect Dr. Mohamed Muizzu during the period of transition.

Muizzu, in a letter to President Solih on Thursday, requested the current administration to halt seven matters during the period of transition to ensure the smooth transfer of power.

When asked about the letter, the President’s Office’s Spokesperson Miuvaan Mohamed told Sun on Friday that the current administration will adhere to the relevant laws during the transition period.

He also stressed that the current administration will fully cooperate in carrying out transition tasks as desired by the president-elect.

In Thursday’s letter, Muizzu put forth seven matters to be halted.

They are;

• Investment by any government body
• Development of any land by the government and issuing new permits for the sale of land
• Changing the ownership of any government-owned properties to another party
• Execution of bilateral conventions and agreements
• Initiating new projects including PSIPs
• Changes to the salary structure of any government body
• Hiring new civil servants and granting promotions to any existing civil servant

In Muizzu’s letter, he thanked President Solih for the exemplary democracy he had shown after the election, in addition to providing assurances of cooperation in the transfer of power.

Muizzu has appointed PNC’s chairperson Abdul Raheem Abdulla (Adhurey) as the director general of transition.
