President-Elect Dr Mohamed Muizzu has said today, that  in his administration, he will grant permission for projects that have been stalled till now because the city council has not received permission.

Muizzu said this while speaking at his last council meeting as Mayor of Male’ City Council.

Speaking at the meeting, Muizzu said they faced serious difficulties in running the council. He said the government did not give permission to complete major projects.

“The land use plan was not approved. They did not register the company. Many things like that. We tried to build parking buildings, but it didn’t get approved. They proceeded with the road paving project,” Muizzu said.

“This has happened to almost all the councils in Maldives. To councils that have opposing political views.”

Muizzu said one of the biggest concerns during the presidential election campaign was a system to strengthen the LGA. He said he would work to create a special ministry to look into the needs of the councils on a daily basis and issue permits to the councils.

“Then hopefully after November 17, we will see all these stalled things in the city council and all the other councils that have been stopped without permission begin by granting permission, and local councilors, elected by the people, will get opportunities to do their jobs to the fullest,” Muizzu said.

“True decentralization will be championed.”

Muizzu said the pledges he made during the campaign were made with the intention of fulfilling them and that he has not pledged anything with a different intention.

Muizzu thanked the council members for their cooperation during his time as the Mayor.
