The opposition PPM-PNC’s presidential candidate Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has pledged to introduce cancer treatment in hospitals in Addu and Kulhudhuffushi, in addition to hospitals in Male’ City.
In a Q&A session titled “Muizzu Rayyithunge Gaathah” on Thursday night, Muizzu said he plans on fully utilizing the Indhira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH) and the Dharumavantha Hospital under his health manifesto.
He said that the quality of services from both hospitals had dropped, and that the resources weren’t properly utilized.
He said he plans on establishing world-class clinics in Dharumavantha Hospital.
Muizzu said his health manifesto pays special attention on preventive healthcare and public health.
He said that he will pay special focus on prevention of non-communicable diseases and running awareness programs.
“Therefore, under our manifesto, we propose spending a huge percentage on the healthcare sector, on disease prevention,” he said.
Muizzu said the Maldives also needs to address underlying social issues in order to prevent the spread of non-communicable diseases, and pledged to pay special focus on that.
