Six-storey cap placed on land issued from Hulhumale’

Urbanco has placed a six-storey cap for buildings constructed on land plots issued from Hulhumale’ under the government’s ‘Binveriya’ scheme.

The regulation on construction at land plots issued from Hulhumale’ under the ‘Binveriya’ scheme was publicized by Urbanco on Wednesday. As per the regulation, land was issued from Hulhumale’ for residential purposes.

However, if the building were to include a basement, ground floor, first floor and a mezzanine floor – the mezzanine floor can be utilized for non-residential purposes, with approval from Urbanco. However, the following activities cannot be carried out in a mezzanine floor;

• Industrial works
• Storage space for flammable items
• Works that will cause public disturbances or involves bad odor
• Works that involve dust or litter the area
• Warehousing
• Elevators need be installed if the building includes five ore more stories.

If a café or a restaurant is developed on the ground floor, tables and chairs cannot be placed outside of the boundaries of the land plot, nor can be shaded outside of the boundaries of the land plot.

Those found in violation of these regulations will be informed via writing by Urbanco, and fined under the relevant policies. Operation of such places will also be forced to halt.

Handover of land plots from Hulhumale’ for recipients began on August 27^th.

The final list of land recipients under the ‘Binveriya’ scheme lists 9,865 eligible applicants.

18,955 applicants will receive plots from the land that is currently available, while the remaining 684 applicants receive plots from land that will be added later. They include applicants who are under 25 years of age and are unmarried and childless.
