Adhurey: Muizzu will win the election by 60 percent

The opposition candidate, Dr Mohamed Muizzu will win next Saturday’s presidential election with 60 percent of the vote, PNC’s president and the one in charge of running the Progressive Congress coalition, Abdul Raheem Abdullah (Adhurey), said.

Speaking at a rally in Gan last night that was held as part of the campaign trips in L. Atoll in order to garner support for PPM PNC presidential candidate Dr Mohamed Muizzu, Adhurey was responding to MDP Chairman and Economic Minister Fayyaz Ismail's statement that President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih would win the presidential election with 56 percent of the vote.

“I want to say that, God willing, PPM/PNC candidate Dr Muizzu will win the election on September 9 with 60 percent of the vote,” Adhurey said.

He said that travelling from HA. Thuraakunu to Addu City showed that the whole country wants change and that the changes that the people want will be facilitated by electing Muizzu.

Noting that various things are being done to break the PPM/PNC coalition, he said the coalition is very strong and cannot be broken. Adhurey reiterated that together they would win the presidential election by 60 percent.

“We are a party that is accustomed to development. We are a party that has been familiarised with democracy. We have shown that too,” Adhurey said, referring to the presidential primary election held by the opposition.

Adhurey criticised rivals MDP, saying that the PPM/PNC coalition has been fully developed politically. He said the rival party split after the presidential primary.

He further said, noting that many people were thinking that PPM/PNC would be done if former President Yameen Abdul Gayoom could not contest the presidential elections, that former President Yameen had played six moves ahead and chose a candidate for the election. 

He said the opposition is moving forward successfully after the presidential primary because of the wisdom of former President Yameen.

Responding to the fact that some people are spreading rumours saying that someone from a smaller party is contesting the election, he said that once former President Yameen has endorsed someone there is no need to think about it anymore.

"Then even if people who are far away try to grab the ticket after dropping like an eagle, it will not be possible,” he said.
