Opposition PPM-PNC's presidential candidate, Dr Mohamed Muizzu, on Thursday,  citing the 'to do or not to do' attitude of the current administration with respect to the airport development in B. Thulhadhoo, has guaranteed residents of the island that he will complete the airport development in his administration

Speaking at Thulhaadhoo during a campaign visit, he said that the government is being very indecisive about the Thulhaadhoo airport. However, he assured that the airport would be completed in his presidential term.

“Maldivians have seen that we are not indecisive about doing things during President Yameen’s five-year term as president,” Muizzu said.

“We will not make empty pledges with respect to the things that the people need. Our team will have all the technical information and ways to raise money.”

Muizzu said the airport will bring lots of improvements and development to the island.

Speaking further, the opposition presidential candidate criticized the inauguration of the housing units on the island before they were completely finished.

“We will do things with sincerity. This island does not need only 100 housing units, that is for sure,” he said.

Citing there to be a land shortage on the island he pledged to implement a major social housing project after reclamation.

He also noted that the land that was selected to build the hospital was not the spot the people wanted.

“There is no connection between the people and the government. The connection has been severed,” Muizzu said.

He emphasized that he would do what the people want, adding there is no point in electing a government on behalf of the people if it is not such a government.

Muizzu also pledged to build roads and sports facilities for the youth.

He said that a lacquer training center would be established on the island as it is one of the most advanced islands in the art of lacquer.

The Thulhaadhoo airport was one of President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih’s pledges. However, the reclamation of land for the airport began two days ago, with days left before the end of the term.
