Criminal Court, on Thursday, found Hussain Mawaz guilty of murder after he confessed to killing his brother in Maradhoo Feydhoo district of Addu City.
The 25-year-old, at Thursday’s hearing, recounted the stabbing in detail. He expressed remorse and said he had repented.
Subsequently, the court found Mawaz guilty.
The judge said an additional hearing in the case will be held within the next 10 days where Mawaz’s punishment will be decided.
If the defendant wishes to uphold his plea in the next hearing, the punishment will be set down based on the plea agreement. If the defendant takes back his plea, both the prosecution and the defense will have the opportunity to debate a punishment.
The stabbing, which took place at a home in the Maradhoo Feydhoo district, was reported to the police at 11:38 pm May 31st.
Ahmed Shuaib, 27, died shortly after he was taken to the Addu Equatorial Hospital.
His brother, Mawaz, was arrested under a court order on June 1st.
Locals report that Shuaib was stabbed inside his home, and later collapsed on the pavement outside the house.
