The opposition PPM-PNC coalition’s presidential candidate, Dr. Mohamed Muizzu says he will make the last 10 days of the month of Ramadan a public holiday, if elected to office.

In a campaign rally in B. Eydhafushi on Wednesday, Muizzu said that given the Maldivian people are Muslims, all affairs of the nation must be based on the Islamic faith.

He said that the government’s policies must be formulated around acts of worship.

Muizzu said that he will declare the last 10 days of Ramadan as non-working days, in order to make it easier for people to worship at night, and perform umrah.

He said that schools will be closed the last 10 days of Ramadan for students below the eighth grade.
