Pres pledges to make Kaadedhdhoo airport international; run mega tourism project in Thinadhoo lagoon

President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has pledged to turn the airport in GDh. Kaadedhdhoo from a domestic to an international airport.

In a campaign rally in Thinadhoo on Wednesday, President Solih said a great change was coming to the island.

He said that with the launch of passport services in the island, the people now want to be able to fly directly overseas, without needing to travel to Male’.

“Our plan is to first turn Kaadedhdhoo into an international airport. But even if we are unable to execute it as originally planned, we aren’t going to wait around,” he said.

President Solih said that last week, the economic council approved plans to run an integrated tourism project in the Thinadhoo lagoon.

He said that if Kaadedhdhoo can’t be turned into an international airport, one will be developed with the tourism project.

President Solih said the project to develop a commercial port in Thinadhoo will be complete within a year.

“We want to affect great industrial changes here. Hence, the port project,” he said.

He said that once the port opens, branches of institutions such as Post and Customs can open there, creating hundreds of jobs.

President Solih expressed confidence in winning the upcoming presidential election in one round.

He said that a contract to build 500 flats in Thinadhoo will be signed on Thursday. He said that similar projects will be conducted in Kulhudhuffushi, Addu, and Fuvahmulah.

He also pledged to develop a picnic island in Thinadhoo lagoon, and to develop the remaining roads of the island with asphalt.

He also pledged to open a TVET campus, and turn the drug detox center in the island into a full rehab facility.
