Faris: A master plan which won't change with every administration needed

Ahmed Faris Maumoon, former parliamentarian and elder son of former President Maumoon Abdul Gayyoom.

Independent presidential candidate, Faris Maumoon, has stressed the need for a master plan that cannot be changed by administrations to conform to their political ideologies in order to fulfill the needs of the people.

Speaking at SSTV’s program “Riyaasee Candidate Aa Eku” last night, Faris said that he does not believe that a political point of view should be used when deciding on major issues concerning the interests of the public - which he pointed out was not the case at present.

“Every decision is centered on how the vote can be increased. How can support be increased? Or how can we come to power? Others are working with these intentions,” he said.

As a result of the leaders having such a mindset, Faris said the people have nothing of permanent stature, to hold onto.

“With respect to providing the most essential needs of the people, the most basic services we need - just because one administration or one group of people did things one way, the next administration has to do the opposite,” he said.

Faris said the people are “lost” because projects started by one administration are halted by the next administration, therefore, stressing the need for a development plan that will not constantly change.

“We need something concrete to hold on to, something that won’t change as quickly. This thing would be our own policy, our singular master plan. It cannot be changed by every administration that comes,” he said.

Faris, noting people are now forced to engage in politics to meet even the most basic needs, accused political parties of taking advantage of that compulsion to get the people to argue.

He emphasized that a group of people being left out while others thrive on opportunities as the scene witnessed when a new administration takes office. He added that the existence of a development plan that cannot be changed can end this practice.
