The Maldives’ first prosthetics and orthotics laboratory opened on Wednesday, at the Hulhumale’ Hospital.
The lab was inaugurated by vice president Faisal Naseem. He was accompanied by the Indian High Commissioner Munu Mahawar, and top government officials.
The lab will treat and provide prosthetics to people who lose their limbs in accidents, or due to disease or birth defects.
The facility will also offer various orthotic devices.
The Hulhumale Hospital recently signed an agreement to develop its services.
The agreement will see the establishment of a theater to perform surgeries in orthopedics, ophthalmology, and gynecology.
The Hulhumale’ Hospital has seen a surge in new patients since the Hulhumale’ Phase II was populated.
