PNC’s presidential candidate and Male’ City Mayor Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has stated that efforts to free opposition leader, former president Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayyoom will be the first task he undertakes on the first day after being elected president.

Speaking at meeting with leadership of the opposition PPM-PNC coalition at PPM headquarters on Monday night, Muizzu said his main priority, if elected, will be to free Yameen.

A video of Muizzu stating the same has gone viral on social media.

“The first thing I say in front of the first podium after succeeding a second round, by God’s will, if (election) enters a second round, will be to call on the incumbent president to let Yameen come home immediately,” he said.

Muizzu said with the political power gained after assuming office, he will expedite efforts to free Yameen on that day itself.

“No matter what happens, on the first day I assume office, if Yameen has not been brought home by them, I will do that first. Meaning, by increasing the gear of the work we commenced yesterday, we will, by God’s will, successfully free Yameen,” he said.

Muizzu submitted his candidacy form to the Elections Commission (EC) with Yameen’s backing this morning. However, he did not speak to the press afterward, like many of his other opponents.

Nevertheless, Muizzu states he will call for a press conference at the earliest, to provide detailed respondes to the inquiries of journalists.
