China’s INSTEC contracted to build solar ice plants in 4 islands

The Maldives Environment Ministry has contracted China’s INSTEC Import and Export Co to build solar-powered community ice plants in four islands.

The project was awarded to INSTEC in a ceremony held at the Environment Ministry headquarters on Sunday.

According to the Environment Ministry, the project involves the design, supply, installation and maintenance of solar-powered ice plants in N. Landhoo, Th. Buruni, Th. Madifushi, and Th. Vilufushi.

Buruni will get a 5-ton ice plant with 15-ton storage, while the rest of the islands will get a 15-ton ice plant with 30-ton storage.

INSTEC is required to complete the project in 240 days.

The project is part of the Maldivian government’s efforts to achieve net zero emissions by 2030.
