A fight broke out between two rival gangs on the main road of Male’ City on Friday, with some of the assailants armed with machetes.
A police spokesperson said that authorities broke up a gang fight in Majeedhee Magu, outside the Dinemore restaurant, at around 11:25 pm Friday.
According to the spokesperson, the fight was broken up by high-visibility police, who managed to catch one of the suspects – a 25-year-old man.
The rest of the suspects fled.
According to the police, two of the suspects also left behind their motorbikes when they fled.
The two motorbikes have been towed by the police.
Police said they are working on identifying the rest of the people involved in the fight.
The fight reportedly broke out between two rival criminal gangs based in Male’ City. Eye witnesses report some of the men had been armed with machetes.
One of the machetes, left behind on the road, was seized by police as evidence.
