Regional Airports Company Limited (RACL) has instructed Island Aviation to pause plans to start night flights to the Kulhudhuffushi Airport.

Island Aviation’s deputy managing director Aishath Jennifer told Sun the airline declined to postpone night flights to the airport because RACL has yet to make certain preparations.

“We have been informed they haven’t yet made certain preparations,” she said.

The plans to start night flights has been put on hold indefinitely.

Jennifer said Island Aviation is fully prepared to begin night operations, and will start flights as soon as they receive the go ahead from RACL.

RACL’s managing director Mohamed Rizwi was not immediately available for comment regarding the decision, which came after Island Aviation successfully conducted test flights.

Rizwi had previously told Sun night operations would begin at the Kulhudhuffushi Airport within one month.

Many of the domestic airports in Maldives do not hold night operations.
