In order to begin operations to HDh. Kulhudhuffushi Airport at night, a test flight landed at the airport last night.

The Deputy Managing Director of Island Aviation, Aishath Jennifer, told Sun that the airport is being prepared for scheduled operations.

She also said that once operations begin, flights will be increased depending on the demand.

Night operations in Kulhudhuffushi Airport are to begin amid plans to expand Hanimaadhoo Airport.

A new runway measuring 2.46 kilometres will be built in Hanimaadhoo under this project along with a new state-of-the-art terminal capable of providing service to 1.3 million passengers per annum and other modern equipment required for the airport.

Kulhudhuffushi Airport was built after reclaiming 30 percent of the island’s mangrove by Maldives Transport and Contracting Company with a budget of MVR 53.4 million.

Scheduled operations in Kulhudhuffushi Airport began back in 2019, while the runway lights were installed completely by last April.
