The government has awarded 270 quotas to escort Hajj pilgrims to three companies.
According to an announcement released by the Islamic Ministry on Thursday, the three companies each received 90 quotas. All three companies charge around MVR 75,000 per pilgrim.
THE COMPANIES AND THEIR RATES:
All three companies were awarded quota for a one-year period.
Islamic Ministry warned that overcharging pilgrims, overpaying companies, and taking money to take more pilgrims than the quota is prohibited under the regulation on hajj and umrah tours.
Maldives received a quota of 1,000 for the hajj pilgrimage this year. Most of it will go to Maldives Hajj Corporation.
Saudi Arabia has sometimes increased hajj quota to Maldives to 2,000. Islamic Ministry states they are trying to increase the quota.
