Mohamed Nizam, 45, Manaaru, GDh. Thinadhoo, has been charged with intentional murder in connection to the death of Mohamed Liton, 35, Bangladesh, who was reported missing after departing from Vilimale’ on a fuel barge on December 28 – on the basis that police investigation showed Liton died after he was unknowingly pushed into the sea from the barge.
Prosecutor General’s Office (PG Office) said that three charges against Nizam, including intentional murder, were filed with Criminal Court on Thursday.

The police investigation showed that Liton was pushed into the sea near K. Galufalhu on the night of December 28th – between 7:00pm and 8:30pm. Additionally, it also showed Nizam had stolen over MVR 51,000 belonging to Liton stored aboard the barge.
PG Office said that Nizam was charged with diamorphine trafficking after 3.2565 grams of diamorphine were discovered during a search of a room rented by Nizam.
Nizam is suspected of using the money stolen from the barge to buy the drugs.
Nizam has a criminal record of drug abuse and misdemeanors such as petty theft and robbery.
