Local youth dies snorkeling near Maafushivaru resort

An 18-year-old has passed away on Monday while snorkeling near Maafushivaru resort.

The identity of the victim, as learned by Sun, is Nishaah Abdul Gafoor, Maahaa, R. Inguraidhoo.

Nishaah’s family confirmed his death to Sun. The incident took place between 5:00pm and 5:30pm this evening.

Nishaah is a scout who saved the life of a child who almost drowned in R. Inguraidhoo on November 18, 2018.

In 2019, President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih awarded his bravery.

His bravery was also recognized by Maldives Scout Association and the World Scout Organization Asia-Pacific Region.
