SSNET adds three channels of Maldives’ national radio to growing content

Newly launched cable TV service, SSNET, has added the three channels of the national radio, Dhivehi Raajeeyge Adu, to its channel portfolio.

The three channels that will be available through SSNET are; Dhivehi Raajjeyge Adu, Dhivehi FM and Dheenuge Adu. This marks the first time radio channels have been included in the channel portfolio if a cable TV service in the Maldives.

SSNET’s Chief Operating Officer Mohamed Asif (Mondhu) detailed the purpose of the addition as to generate a wider audience for radio channels.

“Radio is a close of friend of Maldivians. Especially to the elderly. Radio broadcasts a hefty amount of information, especially religious information. We included the national radio channels in SSNET for this reason,” he said.

Another reason Mondhu cited for the inclusion of the radio channels in SSNET as obstructions to provide radio services to the public in light of a geographical formation of Maldivian islands as noted by broadcasters.

“A survey we conducted showed that many keep their televisions on, even during midnight, in order to listen to radio. The inclusion of radio channels in SSNET would ease this. It is an opportunity to listen to radio through SSNET, without actually having a radio,” he said.

Popular local radio personality, Nasrulla Idrees, in a Facebook post, thanked the management and staff of SSNET for the inclusion of radio channels in their channel portfolio.
