Discussions held on developing a junior college in Velidhoo

Ministry of Higher Education has held discussions with N. Velidhoo Council regarding the preparations underway for the development of a junior college on the island.

Higher Education Minister Dr. Ibrahim Hassan told Sun that a meeting was held with Velidhoo Council and the island constituency MP Abdulla Shafeeq. He detailed discussions that took place during the meeting as the Higher Education Ministry’s plan for developing the junior college and ways to ensure good management and operation of the college upon completion of the project.

Minster Ibrahim Hassan said that discussions were also held regarding ways Velidhoo Council can provide assistance during the development stage of the college including possible locations for the college building. He added that further discussions would be held with the council with more details regarding the project – during which Ministry officials would brief the council on their experiences based on previous projects.

Additionally, the Minister said that the Ministry’s goal was to complete the project at the earliest in order to facilitate higher education and vocational training in the region.

“Our vision is to provide both higher education and vocational training. The syllabus of vocation programs will cater to the sectors within the region with employment opportunities. Hence, the council will brief on the type of courses that should be provided in the region,” Minister Ibrahim Hassan said.

The Minister described the meeting with Velidhoo Council as an extreme success, remarking it to be a good start to the project.

The project is initiated under the current administration’s strategic action plan to establish higher education facilities across different regions in the Maldives.

Velidhoo Council, during the meeting, expressed their intention to cooperate and provide assistance for the project.
