Nazim denies RCC’s involvement in alcohol found in company van

Rasheed Carpentry and Construction (RCC) has issued a statement denying all involvement, after alcohol bottles were found in one of the company’s vans in Hulhumale’.

The incident took place on Wednesday, when the police stopped and searched the van. An expatriate worker, who RCC confirms is one of their employees, was arrested with the alcohol.

RCC’s chairman and leader of Maldives National Party (MNP), MP Colonel (Retired) Mohamed Nazim told Sun that what the company’s employee did was illegal, and that the company would provide its full cooperation to the police.

Nazim said that RCC has a large number of vehicles and drivers, and that it wasn’t easy to monitor each of the vehicles.

He said the company had taken measures to prevent a repeat of such an incident.

“We have changed the protocol so that vehicles can’t be driven anywhere unless there are two people. And the items loaded to vehicles will be noted down hereafter. And no trips can be made without permission from our transport department,” he said.

“We had no involvement in this.”

RCC, one of Maldives’ top construction companies, is a family-owned business.
