Colonel (Retired) Mohamed Nazim, the leader of Maldives National Party (MNP), has submitted his candidacy for the upcoming presidential election.
Nazim, the parliamentary representative of Dhangethi constituency, submitted his candidacy to the Elections Commission on Sunday morning, shortly after President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih’s candidacy was filed.
Nazim presented his candidacy form to EC’s chairman Fuad Thaufeeq, at the elections center, located at Dharubaaruge. He was accompanied by his running mate, Dr. Ahmed Adeel Naseer, and other top party officials.
A retired soldier, Nazim had served as defense minister during two administrations – former president Dr. Mohamed Waheed Hassan Manik’s administration, and that of his successor, former president Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom.
His running mate, Adeel, has a background in education.
