Home Minister: Will be difficult to rule without maintaining coalition

Minister of Home Affairs Imran Abdulla and leader of Adhaalath Party (AP) on Sunday said that from now on, it would be difficult for someone who cannot work along with multiple parties to be President of Maldives.

In a tweet, the Home Minister said that ruling the country in a way that is most beneficial to all Maldivians and suits the ideologies of the majority was something political leaders of the nation needed to find.

He added that in accordance with the beliefs of humans since ancient times, the best ruler would the one who best manages people.

President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih is the president who ruled the longest with a coalition. AP, Jumhoory Party, and Maldives Reform Movement (MRM) joined in bringing Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) to power.

In addition to this, Spokesperson of AP and Home Ministry’s state Ali Nazeer has also noted that the party will be prioritizing the political peace of Maldives for the presidential election.

He went on to say that the party did not wish for the political unrest that existed between 2003 till 2018 to make a comeback.

Minister Iman has further noted that although MDP’s presidential primary has no direct links to AP, there are things of national interest behind it.

Both President Solih and former President Mohmed Nasheed are contesting against each other in the primary slated for January 28.
