Ministry of Islamic Affairs on Monday stated that contractors have assured that the repair work for the air conditioners installed in the sections allocated for praying inside the Salam Mosque will be completed before the new year.

While a total of four air conditioning units are used on the two floors for praying, three of them are damaged, and cannot be used.

Sharing the most recent updates on the repair work, a media official from Islamic Ministry Zammath Ahmed Waheed said that the work to bring the materials needed was ongoing.

“Contractors have informed that the materials being brought from abroad will reach Maldives before the 15th, and that work will be completely finished before the 25th of this month.”

Responding to inquiries, the Islamic Ministry has on a previous occasion stated that there was no way to fix the units in Maldives, and that even the things needed to do the repairing were unavailable.

About a week after that on November 13, a media official from the ministry Ismail Afrah revealed to Sun that an agreement was signed with experts from Turkey specialized in air conditioner repair.

Many have raised concerns over the damaged ac units in the praying section of the mosque.

Despite being well-ventilated, during afternoon’s peak temperature hours, the area is humid and heated. Many especially note this during the Friday prayers, when the mosque fills up with people.
