Sheikh Ilyas’ son appointed imam at Salman Mosque

Ammar Ilyas, the son of Sheikh Ilyas Hussain, a member of Adhaalath Party (AP)’s council of scholars, has been appointed as imam at the King Salman Mosque in the Maldivian capital.

Ammar was appointed an imam at the mosque at deputy minister level.

The position of imam at the King Salman Mosque and the Islamic Minister are deputy minister level political posts. The monthly salary for the positions is MVR 35,000.

Ammar is a graduate of the University of Medina.

His appointment comes amid criticism against the government over high political positions.

While Ammar has now been appointed to a political position, his father Ilyas as also been appointed to a political post in the Maldivian embassy in Malaysia.
