Spokesperson of the President’s Office Mohamed Miuvaan, on Thursday, has stated that appointments are made to government posts after checking the criminal record of the individual – if there are no issues.
An alleged nude photo of former president of the Dhivehi Language Academy Ashraf Ali, who was appointed Deputy Home Minster on Wednesday, alongside another man was leaked on social media last night.
Responding to a question posed by journalist during a press conference held on Thursday by the President’s Office – Miuvaan said that criminal records of prospective candidates for government posts are checked before appointment, to flag down any issues.
“The criminal record of candidates for government posts are checked before their appointment. To identify whether there are any issues. If there is any issue, the appointment will not be made. Should there be such an allegation, it will be probed,” he had said.
Miuvaan did not disclose whether Ashraf’s issue had been brought to attention, or whether the case was being probed.
Sun has learned that the alleged photo was leaked years ago, following which it was circulated amongst people. Commenting on the photo, Ashraf said that no such photos would exist now or before – describing the allegations as a feeble attempt antagonize him over the appointment.
The photo was publicized last night by a verified Twitter account under the name, Alamgiri, the Bangladeshi national convicted on multiple charges of homosexuality after pleading guilty.
