Tourist arrivals grow by 34 percent this year, compared to last year

Tourist arrivals to the Maldives saw an increase by 34 percent as of October 19, compared to the same period last year.

Total tourist arrivals to the Maldives this year, as of October 19, stands at 1,279,231. Tourist arrivals during the same period last year stood at 953,725 – marking the numbers this year a 34 percent increase.

The top tourist market to the Maldives within this period is India, sharing 14.1 percent with 180,255 arrivals. Russia takes second, sharing 12.2 percent with 155,490 arrivals, followed by UK, sharing 10.9 percent with 139,788 arrivals.

Daily average of tourist arrivals to the Maldives presently stands at 4,381, with their duration of stay averaging at 8.1 days.

Maldives aims to welcome 1.6 million tourists by the end of this year. As the peak tourism season impends, the island nation is expected to see a hike in arrivals over the next two months.

In 2021, Maldives welcomed 1.3 million tourists.
