Bus services well received by people, 8024 travelled on day 3

The spokesperson for the President’s Office Mohamed Miuvaan on Thursday said that minibus services introduced on September 5, have been well received by the people.

Miuvaan revealed that on Wednesday alone 8,024 people travelled by buses. Notably, this is just day 3 since the minibuses by Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) operated Raajjee Transport Link (RTL) commenced services.  

While meeting with the press at the President’s Office, Miuvaan said that the number of people using the bus services has greatly increased.

He stated that within the first 24 hours, over 2,000 people travelled. In comparison, over 8000 people travelled on Wednesday.

“The people have very much accepted this service.”

Additionally, he revealed that in order to provide this service, about 35 people were employed and trained as drivers.

The service commenced under the government’s transportation policy, the first two weeks people will be able to travel free of charge.

After this period, MVR 7 will be charged per ride.

QR tickets are available on the RTL website as well as their mobile application that can be downloaded from both Google Play Store and App Store.

Additionally, MTCC stated that upon presenting their National ID card, those over 65 years old, children under three years, and the card given by National Social Protection Agency (NSPA) for people with special needs, will be able to travel for free.

 Moreover, children in school uniforms will not be charged for minibus as well.
