National airline, Maldivian has increased fare prices for domestic trips following their recent fuel surcharge hike.

Speaking to Sun regarding the matter, operator of Maldivian, Island Aviation’s Deputy Managing Director Aishath Jennifer said that they did not increase the fare prices, but rather the fuel surcharge only. She explained that the total ticket fare is inclusive of all charges levied from customers including Goods and Service Tax (GST).

“Fuel surcharge was increased by only MVR 65,” she added.

Sun has learned that Maldivian increased their fuel surcharge due to hike in fuel prices.

The public has taken to social media to criticize Maldivian over their claims that fare prices have not been raised. People have said that although fare prices have not been raised, the payment they need to make has increased.

“Is it because of the increase in fuel surcharge that a ticket which was priced at MVR 1,210 now cost MVR 1,278?” a person had said on social media.
