Environment, Climate Change and Technology Ministry on Monday launched ‘Fasgandu’, a campaign aimed at promoting sustainable waste management.
The campaign was launched by Education Minister Dr. Aishath Ali, in a ceremony attended by Environment Minister Aminath Shauna and other government ministers, officials from the World Bank, and presidents of atoll councils and local councils.
Environment Ministry said initiatives under the campaign include a monthly newsletter, that will be prepared using illustrations and writings from school students.
The first newsletter, prepared with the assistance of residents of N. Maafaru and N. Kudafari, was released by Shauna during Monday’s ceremony.
Environment Ministry said the information disseminated through the campaign will focus of five key areas; health, education, economy, gender, and social.
During Monday’s ceremony, the Environment Ministry screened a video on the key focus areas, launched a web portal with content from across Maldives, and the official campaign song.
Speaking at the ceremony, Shauna said waste management was crucial to achieving sustainable development in Maldives.
She also thanked the World Bank for supporting the campaign, and all those who provided technical support to designing the campaign.
