Air quality monitoring system established in Male’

Environment Ministry has established a system to monitor air quality in the congested Maldivian capital, Male’ City. 

The system was established last Tuesday, on occasion of Clean Air Day for Blue Skies. 

Environment Minister Aminath Shauna said that while the air quality monitoring system is currently in place just in Male’ City, systems will also be estalished in additional regions across Maldives. 

“We have established air quality monitoring system for Malè. More will be established in other regions,” said Shauna, in a tweet on Tuesday evening. 

Environment Ministry has instructed those who wish to check the air quality in Maldives to install the app Air Visual and select Ministry of Environment, Climate Change and Technology. 

The air quality in Male’ City is currently in a moderate level. 

According to the US Environmental Protection Agency, 'moderate’ air quality is acceptable. However, there may be some health concern for a small number of unusually sensitive individuals.
