Second seamanship course concludes with two female officers

The second ‘Basic Seamanship Course’ conducted for officers in Marine Police, has successfully concluded.

The course is conducted collaboratively by Marine Police, United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) and the Government of Japan.

At a special ceremony held on Wednesday, officers which completed the course were presented certificates.

Including two female officers – a total of eight officers had successfully completed the course. The two female graduates were the first two female officers to complete a maritime course in the history of Maldives Police Service and join maritime operations. 

The course which took place from June 12 to June 29 comprised of theory and practical classes. Participants were taught important topics including maritime law, maritime boarding, maritime navigation, boat handling, survival and rescue and vessel pasting.
