Vice President expresses appreciation for contribution of Bangladeshi workforce to Maldives’ development

Maldivian Vice President Faisal Naseem, on Wednesday evening, voiced appreciation for the contribution of the Bangladeshi workforce for the development of Maldives.

He voiced his appreciation during a meeting with High Commissioner Rear Admiral S.M. Abul Kalam Azad, who paid a courtesy call on him at the President’s Office on Wednesday morning.

At the meeting, Faisal and Azad discussed areas of mutual interest and cooperation, including people-to-people interactions, trade, healthcare, tourism, and human resource development opportunities.

Faisal said he valued the contribution of the Bangladeshi workforce to the development of Maldives.

He said that ensuring workplace security and safety for workers had been a top priority for the Maldivian administration, and that there remained much to be done on that front.

Faisal said that the Maldivian administration had been working on the regularization of migrant workers, and stressed the need for an increased number of workers with the influx of developmental projects across the country.

Azad, meanwhile, expressed gratitude to the Maldivian administration for the assistance provided to Bangladeshi nationals working in the Maldives during the COVID-19 pandemic and the vaccine equity policy, ensuring that they received timely vaccination.

Faisal and Azad also discussed prior high-level, successful visits by leaders of state and government from both countries, and said the interactions further reinforced the two countries' relationship.

They concluded their meeting after expressing the desire to further strengthen existing relations between the two countries.

 The Maldives and Bangladesh established diplomatic relations on September 22, 1978.
