Police officer injured during search of Hulhumale’ Phase II apartment

A police officer has been injured during a search of an apartment in Hulhumale’ Phase II. 

A police officer told Sun the search operation was conducted on Thursday in response to a gang fight earlier that day. 

“A police officer was injured during the search operation,” said the officer who spoke to Sun. 

Police declined to disclose details regarding the incident, but said they were looking into it. 

The Maldivian capital has been hit with a string of gang fights. Two took place in Male’ on May 2, and two more took place in Hulhumale’ on Wednesday, May 4, and three more on early Thursday, May 5.

Police have arrested two suspects in connection to the second gang fight on May 2; an 18-year-old and a 15-year-old. 

Meanwhile, seven more suspects wanted by police in connection to the cases remain at large. They are:

  • Ahmed Shimhaz, 22, Seenuge, Th. Thimarafushi
  • Looth Ahmed Asif, 18, M. Lonumidhilige, K. Male’
  • Ahmed Rabeeu, 24, Gulnooranmaage, GA. Maamendhoo
  • Ahmed Nazih, 27, Kenereege, GA. Gemanafushi
  • Munad Jaufar, 20, Naadhee, S. Hulhudhoo
  • Ahmed Sathiu, 21, Coral, S. Maradhoo

The cases are under investigation by the Serious and Organized Crime Department.
