MPL delegation travels to Tuticorin for discussion on supply of imported essential goods

A delegation comprising of members of the senior management of Maldives Ports Limited (MPL) has traveled to Tuticorin, India, for a discussion forum on the supply of essential goods imported to the Maldives.

The delegation which departed on last Thursday includes MPL’s Deputy CEO Ibrahim Abdulla and three assistant general managers. Two customs officers are also included in the delegation.

As part of the agenda for the trip, the delegation had met with Coastal Mechanized Sailing Vessel Owner’s Association – through which a large quantity of perishable goods is imported to the Maldives.

In this meeting, discussions were held on how to manage the non-stop supply of goods imported to Maldives from Tuticorin during the upcoming month of Ramadan.

Discussions were also held on the difficulties faced by vessel owners carrying such goods.

Onions, potatoes and eggs are the most common types of goods imported from Tuticorin which the Maldives have a trading history of over 200 years with. Ninety percent of the short-term perishable goods that are imported to Maldives are from Tuticorin.
