Efforts have been launched for the establishment of a higher education research network in the Maldives – which is linked with India’s National Knowledge Network (NKN).
An agreement was executed between India’s National Informatics Centre (NIC) and Maldives’ National Centre for Information Technology (NCIT) for this purpose.
In a statement released today, Technology Ministry said that local higher education and research institutions will be able to directly access India’s National Knowledge Network which links over 1,700 higher education and research institutions in India.
The Ministry said that Maldives National University (MNU) and Islamic University of Maldives (IUM) have now been linked to this network.
It was also noted that collaborative efforts by NCIT, Higher Education Ministry and Technology Ministry were underway to link additional local higher education and research institutions to this network.
Direct access would be provided to information and digital services available on India’s National Knowledge Network through Maldives’ higher education research network which can be viewed without internet connection.
The Indian government began developing its National Knowledge Network in 2010 – which has now been connected to 11 higher education and research networks including from countries in Europe, America and Asia.
