Hulhumale’ Association for Neighborhood Development (HAND) has conducted a cleanup program in Hulhumale’.
The founder and vice president of the association, Fathimath Nasra told Sun that under the program ‘Saafu Veshi’, members of the association cleaned up waste collected to different locations across Hulhumale’.
Some 50 members worked together to collect approximately 13.5 tonnes of waste.
“This activity was initiated by HAND and executed by our members,” said Nasra.
The cleanup event follows the ‘Rahvehi Maahefun’ event held by the association last weekend, in which residents from neighborhoods across the island gathered for ‘maahefun’, a Maldivian tradition before Ramadan.
“Some 600 people across all age groups attended the maahefun held to inaugurate this association,” said Nasra.
HAND has a number of events planned for upcoming Ramadan, including a Quran competition and a religious awareness program.
“We are currently working on finding sponsors,” said Nasra.
HAND was founded with the purpose of promoting the spirit of community and economic prosperity, as well as assisting residents of Hulhumale’ various issues they face by collaborating with state authorities.
