Bank of Maldives (BML) has announced the successful completion of projects in HA. Thakandhoo and L. Fonadhoo as part of its Community Fund initiative - which focuses on empowering individuals to contribute to society through sustainable community projects.
Under the project, BML funded an outdoor reading area at Thakandhoo School. The open space at the school premises has now been transformed with huts and bookshelves for students to enjoy. Community bookshelves have also been established in locations across the island, in addition to the library.
The project was conducted by Thakandhoo Ekuveringe Rooh.
“Prior to this project, students used the school office as a library. Our aim was to provide a space both for students to read books and to use for outdoor class activities. We will be organizing an island wide book donation campaign to add more books to the outdoor library and community bookshelves,” said Thakandhoo Ekuveringe Rooh.
BML also funded an outdoor reading area at the L. Atoll Education Center in Fonadhoo. The space was designed with bookshelves, seating area and tables.
The project was proposed by Fathimath Shaheedha, a member of the L. Atoll Education Center’s Parent Teacher Association.
“This is a much-needed space that will help instill the love for reading among students,” she said.
The BML Community Fund is an initiative aimed at empowering individuals and NGOs to contribute to their communities through sustainable projects. Every quarter, five winning projects are selected to receive MVR 50,000 to make a difference in the community.
BML has provided financial assistance for 65 projects across Maldives through the initiative.
