President’s Office stated that President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih made no mention of selling land in his annual presidential address, given to open the Parliament this year.
This statement was made by the office while responding to the letter sent to the President by the Mayor of Male’ city Dr Mohamed Muizzu, requesting to give the 1,000 plots of land allocated for the residents of Male’ without any charges.
In the letter signed by the Policy Secretary of the President’s Office Ahmed Hamdhan, it was stated that President Solih had detailed how the land plots would be issued in the presidential address.
During the address President Solih revealed plans to issue land plots to residents of Male’; 1,000 land plots from Hulhumale’, at least 2,000 land plots from Gulhifalhu and further land plots from the land which will be reclaimed at Giraavaru lagoon.
The letter further stated that though the President had assured to allocate and even hand over the ownership documents to the Male’ residents in most dire need for the land before his term concludes, he did not make any mention of selling land in the address.
Male’ City Council sent the letter in question after Hulhumale’ Development Corporation (HDC) announced the sale of 60 land plots from Hulhumale’ Phase II.
In the statement made by HDC on December 27, the sale of 26 beachfront and 34 beachside land plots was announced.
