Bank of Maldives (BML) has increased the card limit of 21 local students in Ukraine, in order to assist them in coming back to Maldives.

With Russia attacking Ukraine today, the country has suspended all commercial air travel. Therefore, locals who are currently in Ukraine have become ‘stuck’ in the country.

Some local students residing in Ukraine had left the country, when fear of war between Russia-Ukraine increased.

Whilst some local students remain in different areas in Ukraine, BML, on Wednesday, has increased the card limits of 21 students in order to assist them leaving the country.

BML’s Public Relations Manager Mohamed Saeed told Sun tonight that they have increased the card limit of 21 students as per the request of Ministry of Higher Education.

“Card limits of 21 students have been increased to assist them manage ticket, as well as other expenses that will be incurred at Ukraine. In addition to this, we have transferred money sent through Higher Education Ministry urgently, for some students,” he had said.

President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih ordered to repatriate Maldivians residing in Ukraine on Tuesday.

Foreign Ministry stated tonight that they were discussing with governments of countries neighboring Ukraine, in order to evacuate local students residing in Ukraine to safe areas.
